According to a recent announcement by the Ministry of Economy, the Agrafa Special Development Program (SDP), despite inherent challenges, is progressing well. Projects are steadily maturing, and many are set to begin implementation in the near future. The first project approvals and the launch of major initiatives that will support the region’s social, economic, and developmental growth are expected imminently.
Indicative projects include:
-
The repurposing of the Mesénikolas High School into a Center for History and Culture
-
The construction of the Vrangiana–Evrytania regional road
-
Aesthetic and urban redevelopment projects in the settlements of Lake Plastiras Municipality
-
The upgrading of the Anthiro regional health center and the creation of a multipurpose health center in Pezoula
-
And many more projects across various sectors
During the fourth meeting of the Steering Committee and Coordination Team, the next steps for the Program's implementation were planned and agreed upon. The session featured a constructive and productive dialogue, with new project proposals, partnerships, and action plans being tabled to accelerate delivery and impact.
Participants in the session included the Chairperson of the Steering Committee and General Secretary of the NSRF, Ms. Vasiliki Pantelopoulou; Governor of Thessaly, Mr. D. Kouretas; Deputy Governor of Central Greece, Mr. A. Tasios (on behalf of Governor F. Spanos); the General Secretary for Government Coordination, Ms. P. Dramalioti; General Secretaries Mr. M. Grafakos (Ministry of Environment and Energy), Mr. D. Papayiannidis (Ministry of Rural Development and Food), Mr. V. Siadimas, and Ms. A. Oikonomou; as well as the Mayors of Argithea (Mr. Stergiou), Lake Plastiras (Mr. Nanos), and Agrafa (Mr. Kardampikis)—either in person or virtually.
The Agrafa SDP is the country’s first pilot Special Development Program focused on mountainous regions, and, thanks to the continued support of Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance, Mr. Nikos Papathanasis, and the close cooperation among national, regional, and local authorities, it is evolving into a model for implementing special development initiatives aimed at supporting Greece’s mountain areas.
