The Mayor of Kythira, Mr. Eustratios Charhalakis, commenting on the commencement of the studies, stated the following:
"Another major development project is now underway on our island. A tourism development project that the local community has been awaiting for decades. A great opportunity was missed for this project when, in 2005, the funding for the marina at Kapsali, amounting to €2.5 million, was approved with a Ministerial Decision published in the Government Gazette, but ultimately the project was never realized, rendering the entire process void. Together with the President of the Port Fund, we successfully pursued funding for the completion of significant port studies, one of which is the Marina at Kapsali. Upon their completion, we will have a ready-to-submit file, so that after obtaining the necessary permits, we can pursue another major funding opportunity for our region."
