The Ministry of Culture is proceeding with the restoration of two more monument-buildings at the former royal Tatoi Estate.

In an announcement, the Ministry of Culture notes that the building of the Ypaspistirio (Guard House) will be restored to accommodate the essential supporting functions of the estate, while the Choirostasio (Pigsty) complex will operate as a retail shop. The restoration studies of the two buildings, aimed at reusing and functionally integrating them into the modern era of the estate, received the unanimous positive opinion of the Central Council of Modern Monuments.

Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni, stated: "The Ministry of Culture is systematically progressing with the restoration and promotion of the Tatoi Estate. The restoration of the Ypaspistirio — which remained in use until 1967 — and the Choirostasio is part of the second phase of the restoration of the monumental heritage of the former royal estate. These are representative examples of the palace and production units, which are being given new uses to meet the modern needs of visitors."

"The Ypaspistirio building, despite the modifications it has undergone over time, remains one of the most significant architectural examples of the Romantic period. The Choirostasio corresponds to the increase in agricultural and livestock production, alongside the Voustasio (Cattle Barn) and the Galaktokoomeio (Dairy). It is a post-war building — constructed in 1948 — and a testimony to the recovery process following the extensive destruction of the estate in 1944 and 1945. The interventions on the monuments serve the new functions of the buildings while fully respecting the preservation of all historical and authentic elements, as well as the removal of later alterations to address aesthetic concerns. The original form of the buildings is preserved, and the surrounding space is highlighted so that the buildings are organically connected to the others, the restoration of which is ongoing and will be completed by the end of this year. Furthermore, all specifications have been taken into account to ensure universal accessibility. The restoration of the Ypaspistirio building and the Choirostasio complex has become a priority following the completion of works being carried out in the Stavlos (Stable) and Voustasio," added Mrs. Mendoni.
