According to the program presented by the Ministers of Labor and of the State, Kostis Hatzidakis and Akis Skertsos respectevely, the program refers to houses of up to 150 sq.m. aged 15 and more. It was also added that interest rates offered will be zero for those with many children.
The budget of the program is in the first phase €500 million with a provision even for doubling the budget. The Minister of Labor said that young people are at the center of this housing policy and that the aim, among other things, is to deal with the demographic problem.
People eligible for the program are mainly young people and young couples aged 25 to 39. The total number of loans that will be given is 5,000 and the potential beneficiaries 10,000.
"The program concerns the purchase of a first home up to 200,000 euros and houses up to 150 sq.m. older than 15 years and above. Why don't we make bigger loans? Why isn't it about bigger houses? Why aren't the houses newer? Because we are talking about a social program" added Mr. Hatzidakis.
According to Mr. Hatzidakis "all systemic banks Alpha Bank, Eurobank, National Bank and Piraeus Bank participate in the program. Pankritia, the cooperative banks of Epirus, Thessaly, Karditsa, Chania and Attica Bank also participate.
