This initiative follows the approval by the Ministry of Environment and Energy of the expression of interest for the aforementioned areas by the companies Chevron and HELLENiQ Energy.
As part of the decision, the Minister of Environment and Energy has authorized the tender declaration issued by the Greek Hydrocarbon and Energy Resources Management Company (EDEYEP). This declaration is initially published in the Government Gazette and will subsequently be published in the Official Journal of the European Union. The bidding period will span 90 days from the date the announcement is published in the Official Journal of the European Union.
It should be noted that the competitive process has already begun, as on January 23rd, Mr. Skilakakis signed a decision establishing the precise boundaries of the maritime areas for which the rights to explore and exploit hydrocarbons are being granted.
According to the Minister of Environment and Energy, the tender announcement marks a significant step toward enhancing the country’s energy security, as it strengthens efforts to explore the potential for significant natural gas reserves, which serve as a transitional fuel for the energy transition.
