The tender for the construction of the new Heraklion Courthouse and the reconstruction of the Rethymnon Courthouse enters the competitive dialogue phase.

The project, with a budget of €70 million, will be implemented through PPP and refers to the construction, maintenance and management of the new Heraklion Courthouse with a gross area of ​​24,550 sq.m., which will house all of the city's judicial functions, as well as the extensive reconstruction of the existing Rethymno Courthouse with a total area of ​​3,035 sq.m.

The two properties are fully owned by the Court Buildings Financing Fund of the Ministry of Justice.

It is been reminded that in the seconf phase, all 5 construction financial entities that submitted expression of interest files have been qualified:

  • AVAX SA
  • GEK TERNA SA
  • ASSOCIATION OF PERSONS MYTILINEOS S.A.-A.T.E.S.E. S.A.
  • ACTOR CONCESSIONS S.A.
  • INTRACAT

The Private Partner should use in all phases of the Contract, both during the design/construction/reconstruction phase and during the operation, maintenance and management phase, a Building Information Modeling model, which will then constitute a reliable basis for decisions, throughout their life cycle.

In Heraklion, the construction of the new Courthouse will take place on a plot of land located east of the city center, near the port of Heraklion, between the city and the airport and near the old walls, at the junction of Ikaros, Ethniki Antistaseos and Eleftherios Venizelos avenues (coastal ).

In Rethymnon, the reconstruction of the existing Courthouse is planned in order to solve the chronic problems of the building that was erected in 1981 and has been in operation for over 40 years and concern the infrastructure and facilities of the building which now prevent the functionality of the space and the smooth operation of judicial services.

The reconstruction envisages restoration work of the supporting body, appropriate internal arrangements to remedy problems related to use, interventions on the external shell and the interior of the building, to remedy problems related to age, poor maintenance and lack of modernization and upgrading of all facilities.

These new judicial infrastructures, which are expected to contribute to the qualitative and quantitative upgrading of the operation of Justice, are part of a series of projects in courthouses throughout the territory, with a total budget of 298 million euros, which are in the process of maturation
