The final phase of the tender for the study, financing, construction, maintenance and technical management of the Almopeia Irrigation Network has been posted on ESIDIS, with a final deadline for the submission of binding offers on August 7, 2024.

It is the second project in line (after Tauropos Karditsa) and concerns the Irrigation Network of Almopeia with a construction budget of €115,000,000 (plus VAT), of which €34,200,000 will be paid by the Recovery Fund.

In more detail, the Project includes the preparation of the project's application-construction studies, the construction of the irrigation network and the protection dykes of the areas, and the maintenance and operation of the irrigation network for 23 years.

The construction of the Irrigation Network will contribute to the irrigation of cultivated lands in the northwestern part of the Giannitsa plain, with simultaneous strengthening and quality improvement of the ecological supply of the Regional Ditch of Thessaloniki.

The area in question is currently poorly irrigated with water coming from a large number of private wells within the perimeter of the projects and with rough withdrawals from the Regional Ditch.

The proposed irrigated gross area of 150,000 acres has been divided into twelve irrigation zones of 10,000 to 15,000 acres. After deducting the area of settlements, roads, ditches, streams, etc., the total net cultivated area within the perimeter will amount to 120,440 acres. The beneficiaries are estimated at around 25,000 farmers.

The overall project will be completed in 36 months, while the first part will be delivered complete and operational in 18 months.
