Regional governor Giorgos Patoulis has expressed the Region's intention to encourage consultation with citizens, municipalities and agencies, for the planning of the regeneration of the Falirikon Park, at the opening of the three-day consultation workshops organized by the Region of Attica, the European Commission and the Ministry of Development.

Mr. Patoulis expressed his satisfaction with the funding from the European Commission of 365.4 million euros, "for the final implementation of such a large and decisive project and at the same time the return of 110 million euros that will be used by the Region for development projects and infrastructure in all 66 municipalities of Attica" and urged the citizens to contribute to the finalization of the identity of the Park.

The systematic efforts of the Region for the final implementation of the project were praised in his speech by the representative of the European Commission, Carsten Rasmussen, welcoming the start of the consultation.

"Although it is one of the most important projects in Europe that will change the lives of the residents of Attica, at first we were hesitant to finance it, but when we saw the very serious work done by the relevant services of the Region and Mr. Patoulis personally in the who deserve congratulations, we changed our minds" he noted. He then emphasized that the goal should be an open, accessible, safe and "green" park for everyone that will be among the best in Europe.

"We are creating a project that will remain for all future generations, as a legacy," he pointed out.

For his part, the Special Secretary for the Management of ERDF Programs G. Zervos, referred to the desired character of the Park as a hub of entertainment, sports and culture and focused on the importance of submitting planning proposals from all parties involved, "with the aim of reaching directly to the result we desire".

The works were opened by the director of Technical Services of the Region Al. Kalogeropoulos, who, welcoming the participants, pointed out that the consultation workshops are held with the aim of maturing and enriching the existing design with additional elements and proposals, so that we can lead to a project that will promote inclusion and a common vision for the regeneration of Falirikos Ormos .

The opening of the work was attended by the president of PEDA and mayor of Galatsiou G. Markopoulos, the mayors of Smyrna S. Tzoulakis, P. Faliros G. Fostiropoulos, Moschatou Tavrou A. Efthymiou, Kallithea D. Karnavos, the deputy governor of Notiou Tomea H. Theodoropoulos , the regional councilor D. Nanou, the director of the Metropolitan Park A. Tritsis M. Hatziathanasiou and the president of S.E.F. H. Tsiligiri.
