The ongoing project, with a total length of 74.8 kilometers, is being implemented by Olympia Odos S.A., in collaboration with the companies AKTOR, AVAX, and GEK TERNA.
According to recent statements by the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Nikos Tachiaos, the progress of the works has exceeded 73%, with completion scheduled to take place in phases within 2025. Specifically, the first section, from Kato Achaia to Pyrgos, covering 65 kilometers, is expected to be open to traffic by July 2025. The second section, from Mintilogli to Kato Achaia, spanning 10 kilometers, is expected to be completed by the end of November 2025, at which point the entire highway will be fully operational.
According to reports, Olympia Odos has been requested to submit a proposal for the construction of this section, the form of which depends on the management of the environmentally protected area of Lake Kaiafa and the negotiations that need to take place with the European Commission. In any case, as Mr. Tachiaos has stated in Parliament, the cost of this specific project starts at 700 million euros, and depending on the solution selected, it may exceed one billion euros. These budgets have been derived from studies of three alternative solutions that the concession company has submitted to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.
Upon completion of the Patras-Pyrgos highway, Olympia Odos will become one of the largest in Greece. It will be extended by 75 kilometers, reaching a total of 285 kilometers. The construction will involve widening the existing National Road for the first 13 kilometers and creating a new route for the remaining 61.5 kilometers. This will be a high-standard road with two lanes of traffic and one emergency lane, a design speed of 120 km/h, 8 grade-separated interchanges, and semi-interchanges that will smooth traffic flow and improve road safety.
