The GEK TERNA Group has reportedly submitted the winning bid for the "Study, Construction, Financing, Operation, Maintenance, and Exploitation" of the Chania-Heraklion section of the Northern Road Axis of Crete (BOAK).

In the next phase of the tender, once the audit of the financial bid files is completed, a temporary contractor will be selected for the project. The process of finalizing the contractual documents, selecting the final contractor, conducting a pre-contractual legality check, and obtaining approval for the concession contract will follow.

This will involve the Court of Auditors and other necessary parties, before the contract is signed and sanctioned by the Parliament.

After the concession starts, the project study period will begin. Once the studies are completed and the necessary expropriations have been carried out to make the space for the project available, construction work will commence.

The project involves the construction of approximately 157.5 km of motorway and 150 km of lateral/vertical network with 2 traffic lanes in each direction, equipped with LEA. It also includes 26 tunnels, 10.80 km of new bridges, 23 of which are more than 100 meters long, and the creation of 20 new uneven junctions, as well as the upgrading of the existing 18 uneven junctions in the Bypasses of Chania, Rethymno, Heraklion.

The following schemes were among the original claimants of the project, and passed to the next phase of the competition:

 1. ACTOR CONCESSIONS,

2. GEK TERNA,

3. J&P AVAX,

4. VINCI,

5. J/V MYTILINEOS-ACCIONA-INTERTOLL.

It should be noted that the Hersonissos-Neapoli section, which is 22.5 kilometers long and has a budget of €290 million, has been contracted and will be built as a PPP project by the TERNA - Aktor Concessions - Intrakat consortium.
