The major redevelopment of OSE's central railway Larissa Station surrounding area in Athens

The Municipality of Athens proceeds with a major redevelopment in the historic neighborhood of the so called "Larissa Station, where the country's first and largest railway station is based.

This suburb of the Greek capital -from where pass through hundreds of passengers travelling by train to and from the mainland - has been completly refurbished and after a long time. The 4-acre park, located opposite the central railway station, was completely upgraded, after a series of interventions, creating a beautiful and welcoming space for everyone.

A precious "lung" of greenery, on Th. Diligianni Street, which is a meeting point for the residents of the neighborhood and visitors, was redesigned according to the principles of sustainability and the microclimatic needs of the area. As part of the renovation, the greenery was enriched and a total of 31 new trees and 2,714 shrubs were planted in the area. At the same time, through appropriate works, all the plants that previously existed in the park were preserved and revitalized, in order to enhance shade and oxygen.

New infrastructure projects

In order to improve the space used by the visitors, the technical services of the municipality installed new turf on an area of 805 sq.m. At the same time, the irrigation system was automated, in order to rationally use water and properly irrigate the plants. In addition, works related to the fencing and demarcation of the area were carried out, while the crews also proceeded with the maintenance and painting of the curbs around the perimeter of the park, with the aim of its aesthetic upgrade.

To ensure better lighting quality, but also to save energy, all the lamps inside the park were replaced with LED lamps.
