It is about the sports grounds at the junction of Agia Paraskevi and Sifnos streets (Sports Center 537), the renovation of which was a constant request of those who live in the area, as they remained abandoned for years.
The intervention was implemented through the program of the Municipality of Athens "Adopt your city", with the support of Euroleague Basketball and the company BKT. Specifically, the action is part of Euroleague Basketball's "One Team" Corporate Social Responsibility Program that takes place in European cities in collaboration with the Special Olympics, partners/sponsors and the teams participating in the event. The aim is social integration and the promotion of Goal 10 of Sustainable Development of the United Nations, which concerns the reduction of inequalities.
During the courts' handing over, the mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis, in his statement, emphasized: "The upgrading of sports venues continues in all 129 neighborhoods of Athens. Our goal is that, from one end of the city to the other, children and young people can play sports in modern and functional facilities, safely and comfortably. We sincerely thank Euroleague Basketball and the BKT company for their contribution to this dynamic and stable effort of the Municipality of Athens".
The sports floor of both stadiums was repaired, the hoops were replaced and the lighting was improved so that the sports fields are functional and safe even in the evening hours. In detail, the interventions implemented in the two stadiums are as follows:
- Repairing the sports floor (scraping and removing the old paint - filling with asphalt emulsion to make it level - priming).
- Painting the floor in the two basketball courts with bright colors.
- Replacement of crowns.
- Maintenance of lighting poles.
- Painting the wall around the pitches.
- Repairing the fence.
During the handover of the two sports grounds, a 3 on 3 basketball tournament was organized with the participation of children from the "Antaios" Sports Club and the surrounding areas.
