The underwater water supply pipeline of Aegina has been put back into operation, as the damage caused two months ago has been repaired.

A key question, however, remains whether the water is safe to drink again.

The contractor in charge of the repair - as the prosecutor's report referred to a material failure, clearly pointing to the side of the manufacturing company - informed the regional governor of Attica, Nikos Hardalia, that due to the holiday of March 25, the laboratory that examines the water samples was closed.

As noted, if the relevant sample is provided by the Municipality of Aegina, today, then the results of the chemical analyzes will be available tomorrow, while those of the biological analyzes next Tuesday, April 2. Therefore, until the quality control measurements are announced, the Municipality of Aegina has decided that the water will be used by the residents exclusively for domestic purposes.

It is recalled that in the immediately preceding twenty-four hours, divers devoted themselves to cleaning the seawater that was inside the pipeline, tightened the screws and proceeded with the assembly process of the special piece required, in order to restore the water supply to the island.

"We shortened the time and took all the necessary actions, in order to comply with all the protocols, calling on the contractor to fully comply with his obligations", stressed colleagues of Nikos Hardalia, adding that the regional governor of Attica has been following the issue from the first moment, in on a daily basis, taking all the necessary initiatives, in the shortest possible time.

"We are now waiting for the relevant analyzes from the Municipality of Aegina, so that the water can come back to the houses of Aegina safely. It is self-evident that all the necessary, strict specifications should be observed", they emphasized.
