The contract for the water supply project in the settlement of Kineta—one of the most critical infrastructure initiatives in Western Attica—was signed at the town’s municipal office.

"Access to clean, safe, and adequate water is a fundamental right of every citizen. It is our responsibility to make every possible effort and leverage all available funding tools to fulfill this obligation," stated Regional Governor Nikos Hardalias. He added, "We are providing a definitive solution to a long-standing issue through a project of critical importance—one that enhances quality of life, protects public health, and promotes sustainable development."

Mr. Hardalias emphasized that the goal of the Region is to complete the project in the shortest possible timeframe, while also expanding works within the internal water supply network of the area. By 2028, the aim is to fully resolve the water supply issue in Kineta. He further noted that the technical study for the internal (within the urban planning zone) network is already complete, and the relevant project will be put out to tender in September. In October, a detailed timeline for extending the water supply to settlements outside the town planning zone will also be presented. He pledged that the Region of Attica will continue funding similar infrastructure initiatives in the area.

The project, with a total budget of €6.4 million, is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund. It includes the construction of a 15-kilometer-long water transmission pipeline from Megara to Kineta, connected to the EYDAP (Athens Water Supply and Sewerage Company) network. Additionally, it involves the construction of a new central water reservoir with two chambers and a total capacity of 3,000 cubic meters. This infrastructure will serve over 21,000 permanent residents in the broader area, as well as the thousands of visitors who flock to Kineta during the summer months.
