In fact, in an informative meeting held with the Municipality of Rethymno and the Presidents of the settlements of Western Rethymno (Kampano area), the budget project of 1,500,000 Euros was presented, concerning the Old National Road, west of Rethymno to the borders of the Prefecture of Chania, the which is performed by P.E.
Rethymno and concerns the maintenance of the road network, technical construction, etc. as well as the Study of the Road Connecting the Settlements of Western Rethymno with B.O.A.K. with a budget of €1,200,000.
As stated by the Vice-Regional Governor of Rethymno, Mrs. Maria Lioni, the Regional Unit of Rethymno responding to the needs of upgrading the road network of the P.E. towards BOAK with all the settlements of the wider area of "Kampanos".
With the implementation of the proposed study, the aim according to the Region of Crete is to strengthen the social cohesion of the residents of the area, as well as the planned interconnection with the Municipality of Agios Vassiliou, improvement in the movement of agricultural products to the BOAK, containment of the population in wider area, improving the traffic of the already intense tourist flow in the area, increasing road safety for access to the area in question and efficient arrangement of local and long-distance traffic.
