An one month extension - until September 30, 2024 - was given to the tender for the main section of BOAK, Chania-Heraklion, by decision of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport in order to complete the finalization of contractual documents.

By the same decision, the temporary contractor of the GEK TERNA project is called upon to ensure the extension of the validity of the letter of guarantee until 30-12-2024 and the extension of the validity of its offer as well as the letters of loan support until 30-11-2024

The extensions were given following requests from GEK TERNA in order to complete the tender for the Independent Engineer which was extended until 06-09-2024, but also due to the large volume of required data, supporting documents and documents which are expected to be drawn up and finalized, combined with the size and complexity of the project, the number of parties involved but also the significant part of the requested funding.

Upon completion of the process of finalizing the contractual documents, the selection of a final contractor, the pre-contractual legality check and the approval of the concession contract by the Court of Auditors will follow, and then, (among other things) the signing of the contract and its sanction by the Parliament .

The tender concerns the study, construction, financing, operation, maintenance and exploitation of a section of the BOAK motorway, with a budget exceeding €1.5 billion and is the largest project implemented through a Concession Agreement at a pan-European level.
