Turkey is ranked among the top five countries in Europe for installed renewable energy capacity and, according to the country's Minister of Energy, it holds the 11th position globally.

"This year, we will be among the top three countries in Europe and the top nine countries in the world," said Alparslan Bayraktar in an interview with Hurriyet. He added that in wind and solar energy, installed capacity has increased from almost zero to over 33,000 megawatts in the past 15 years.

"In solar energy, we began this journey in March 2013 with our first 91-kilowatt plant, and today we have reached an installed capacity of about 20,000 megawatts. As of today, the electricity we produce from wind and solar energy is sufficient to meet the annual electricity needs of all households in our country," he continued.

Along with wind and solar energy, the share of renewable energy sources (RES) in the country's total installed capacity has risen to 60%. "All preparations for reforms in the licensing processes for wind and solar energy have been completed," he stated.
