The contract was signed on 7 May 2026 by the Chief Executive Officer of HPPC, Iro Chatzigeorgiou, and the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the contractor ALPHADELTA Constructions ATE, George Andrianopoulos. The total contract value amounts to €8.74 million, excluding VAT, with an implementation period of 28 months. The project will be financed entirely through HPPC’s own funds.
A Strategic Project for Culture and Tourism
The project has been incorporated into the Strategic Importance Contracts Development Programme following approval by the competent governmental committee, underscoring its landmark character and its anticipated contribution to the tourism and economic development of the Laconia region. The tender procedure was conducted through the Strategic Contracts Unit (Project Preparation Facility – PPF) of Growthfund and was completed in August 2025.
Comprehensive Infrastructure Upgrade
The project entails a comprehensive programme of restoration, modernization, and functional enhancement of the Diros Caves facilities, with the objective of ensuring the sustainable development and preservation of a unique natural and cultural heritage site.
The scope of works includes:
- Construction of a new building to house the Mani Caves Prehistory Museum
- Renovation and operational upgrading of the entrance facilities, refreshment area, laboratories, sanitary facilities, and restaurant
- Landscaping and enhancement of the surrounding area
- Construction of new shelters and structural support facilities
- Installation of modern electromechanical systems and upgraded lighting infrastructure
- Modernization of the biological wastewater treatment system
Construction works are expected to commence within the coming days.
