The initiative involves a comprehensive set of green interventions, combining clean energy production, electric mobility in municipal and interconnecting transport, and upgraded waste management, with a focus on the sustainable use of the island’s resources. These measures support Poros’s gradual transition to a climate-neutral model and significantly improve the operation of essential services for residents, while simultaneously reducing electricity costs.
The design and implementation of the project is being undertaken by Terna Energy, which acts as Masdar Group’s development and operational arm in Southeastern Europe. Once completed, the project is expected to enhance Poros’s energy self-sufficiency, reduce emissions from local transportation, and upgrade key municipal services, delivering a direct impact on residents’ daily lives and the island’s overall functionality.
The intervention is part of Masdar’s strategy to strengthen its presence in Greece and the wider region through projects that accelerate local clean energy development and create measurable environmental impact.
Masdar’s acquisition of Terna Energy in 2024 aligns with this strategy, reflecting the company’s commitment to further developing renewable energy in Southeastern and Central Europe, aiming to leverage new capacity and contribute to the EU’s goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.
